Individual bonuses can work but an overall bonus for all staff that is tied to a preset percentage of the payroll prevents blowing out your payroll percentage and rewards teamwork. Keep in mind a bonus system will make low producing employees into all stars. Bonuses are best used as an acknowledgement of a “job well done” and can get your already productive staff to go the extra mile. Profit sharing is another option to consider.
