Block scheduling

While not for every practice, block scheduling can make a schedule more efficient.

Example: Your practice has trouble scheduling NPs within 1-2 weeks (NP no shows/cancels skyrocket if scheduled more than 1-2 weeks out). What to do? Count up NPs over the last six months. If you saw 240 NPs, that would be 40 per month or 10 per week. Reserve at least that much time in your schedule to handle immediate new-patient demand. If demand increases, block additional NP slots in your schedule, which may require you to either:

a) extend hours
b) hire another FT or PT hygienist
c) implement some form of assisted hygiene.
