Dental Office General Policy Manual

ANSI/ADA/ISO Specification No. 3950

This system is used in many countries outside the U.S.

It is identified as code set "JO" on dental claim forms and HIPAA standard electronic dental claim transactions (as opposed to code set "JP", which is more commonly used in the U.S.).

Teeth are designated by a two-digit code.

  • The first digit representing the quadrant;
  • The second digit representing the tooth in the quadrant.

There is no standard way to indicate supernumerary teeth with this system.
